St. George Dragons rugby league team originated in Kogarah, NSW, as a foundation club of the NSWRL. Foundation member of NSWRL, dating back to 1908. With 21 minor premierships and 11 premierships, they were one of the competition’s most successful clubs. Notable players include Reg Gasnier, Norm Provan, and Graeme Langlands. They moved to Illawarra in 1999 and continued as St. George Illawarra Dragons, keeping the Dragons name. Their home stadium was Kogarah Oval, with a seating capacity of about 22,000. The Dragons’ history includes a strong junior and senior pipeline, feeding success into the NRL era. The Dragons name remains a core identity for the Illawarra partnership.
